CALU's By-laws prohibit the Union from endorsing any political candidate or party.

We can't possibly know each member's political beliefs or party affiliation. We don't believe that your elected union representatives should be endorsing candidates when many members may not feel the same way.

Individually, members are free to support whomever they wish and even run for office yourselves if you so desire.

Why CALU

The Connecticut Association of Labor Unions was founded in June 2016.

There are set window periods where a Union can petition to represent Municipal Workers. Should at least 30% of the local's membership sign union cards, the election process can start under the supervision of the Connecticut Labor Board.

If you feel that your current Union does not fit your needs or if you are not in a Union and want to consider you options to joining one, please feel free to call us at 860-304-3840. Even if CALU is not a good fit for you and your coworkers, we can suggest alternatives.

All contacts with us will be kept confidential.

How We Keep Dues Inexpensive

Membership Dues are essential to providing representation to Union members.

Should a dues increase be warranted, the Board of Directors can not increase dues by more than the inflation index from the previous calendar year without taking the issue to the membership. For instance, if inflation runs 1.3% annually, your dues would only go up that amount. If a larger increase is sought, only an affirmative vote by a majority of individual locals can increase dues by more than the rate of inflation.

CALU has intentionally narrowed it's focus on helping you, the Connecticut Workers. You won't find us traveling the world on your dime as happens with many unions.
